The homestead »Pri Martinovih« (»At Martins«) is located in a small village Zagora in the rural community Kanal ob Soči. The village lies only 1 km off the main road Nova Gorica – Plave – Bovec, its distance from Nova Gorica is only 11 km and from Kanal 9 km.
A family of six offers bed and breakfast service in a renovated building amidst comforting green environment. The Valentinčič family lives in the house that is 260 years old and whose first known inhabitant was their ancestor Martin Valentincig from Zagora.
The quiet hamlet Zagora with its 7 houses and 25 inhabitants is known rather for the battles that took place here in the I. World War in order to take position in the village which had 14 houses at that time. In rememberance of those days there are many monuments, caverns and trenches left behind by the Italian or Austrian army.
The advantageous location of the residence provides numerous starting points for trips by foot, bycicle, car or train. You can visit Sveta Gora, a well-known place of pilgrimage with its basilica and a Museum dedicated to the Isonzo-Front in this area. Not far from Sveta Gora there is the monument in Vodice and the Peace path that leads you into the caverns. From Sveta Gora you will enjoy the magnificent view of the bridge in Solkan, the town of Nova Gorica, the Sabotin mountain, the Goriška Brda hillland and the Italian Friuli, all the way to the Adriatic Sea. On the northern side you can admire the mighty Julian Alps and the Plateau of Trnovo.
