![]() Isonzo FrontThe territory of the hamlet Zagora is still interesting for the remnants of the I. World War, like pieces of military equipment that can be found in the nearby caverns and trenches. To learn some detailed information about this period we recommend you to visit the museum collection of the Isonzo Front on Sveta Gora, the monument to the lieutenant general Maurizio Gonzaga in Vodice, the Peace Path, Prižnica i.e. the famous Hill 383, the remains of a military chapel and a graveyard in Plave.Sacred buildingsIn the vicinity there are many sacred buildings from various periods. One of the oldest is the church of St. Ahac in Prilesje near Plave, where frescos from the second half of 15th century and a ribb-vaulted presbytery are preserved. The basilica on Mt. Sveta Gora is a popular place of pilgrimage with a rich history. It was built in 1544 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary because of the oral tradition that claimed the appearance of Our Lady to a shepher-girl named Urška Ferligoj from Grgar. The basilica was abolished and partly demolished in 1786 on the orders of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Joseph II. It was rebuilt 7 years after that. During the World War I, the church and the Franciscan monastery were again demolished and the church was rebuilt in 1927 in the historical style. The church of Mary s Assumption donates a special character to the small town of Kanal. It was built as a parish church in the 13th century. Due to the excellent acoustics of the interior, the cultural society organizes concerts in the church, the most well-known musical event are the Kogoj s Days. Solkan BridgeThe largest stone arch bridge in the world is built of 4533 worked stones and spans over the river Soča in Solkan. The construction of its 85 m wide arch started in 1904. In the World War I the bridge was destroyed, but due to its strategic position it was temporarily repaired and built anew later on. It is classified as a technical monument.THE HOMESTEAD AT MARTINS
